Why Does a Kitchen Need a Cutting Board? Tools of the trade…

why you need cutting board for kitchen

We have numerous tools and gadgets available to us that help with our day-to-day lives.  Most of these items might be considered a luxury or not necessary.

However,  some of these tools we can’t and in some cases shouldn’t do without. The most obvious in today’s world would be vehicles for transportation, computers, and, of course, the smartphone.

A cutting board is one of those necessities for the kitchen that you cannot live without. In this guide, we will walk you through why you need to have a cutting board in your kitchen.

The Kitchen: A Workspace of Its Own

As I come from the construction industry, I could name dozens of tools that are used in the carpentry, plumbing, and electrical trades. With the advent of lithium-ion batteries, cordless tools are now a dime a dozen, and quite frankly, it’s difficult to imagine working without them.

We can easily navigate our daily lives and identify all the places that utilize various tools and gadgets that make our lives easier. But the one place that is a part of everyone’s day that may get overlooked at first glance is…the kitchen. It’s considered the primary gathering place in almost everyone’s home.

Importance of Having a Kitchen Cutting Board

From breakfast to dinner and everything in between…the kitchen is where you prepare, in one form or another, the food you eat.

Some obvious tools are present in most people’s kitchens, regardless of size:  A range/stove, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, and most likely a dishwasher.  You then have all your cooking utensils, pots and pans, etc. These are the most obvious.  There is one very necessary item that might get overlooked. One item that you can’t do without. They come in all shapes, sizes, and materials. The cutting board.

Why You Need to Have a Cutting Board?

Why is this “tool” so important? For many, these are obvious…but here is a basic list.

1. To protect the countertop surfaces from scratches, gouges, and stains. 2. Hygiene. Your countertop tends to harbor bacteria.

3. Preservation of your knives. Protect your knife edge from damage and dulling. 4. Food safety and antimicrobial properties.

5. Stability and efficiency. Having a stable and dedicated work area meant for food prep.

6. Juice management for roasts and meat that requires time to rest before serving.

7. Your cutting board could be used to serve or “plate” your meal.

Which Cutting Board Should You Get?

Space and cost often play a factor in determining the type of cutting board that best suits your needs. I would argue that there are a couple of other points that should supersede those mentioned above: Safety and antimicrobial properties. One's health should take precedent

over saving money and counterspace. Cheaply made bamboo boards contain urea formaldehyde adhesives, and plastic boards contain cancer-causing microplastics, both of which are clear health risks, not to mention the breeding ground for bacteria and mold.

Buying the right tool for the job is important. However, buying the right QUALITY tool will last you a long time.

I decided to ask Chat to assist in providing me with the above list, and…oddly enough, it happens to describe our very own cutting board:

The True Board. It’s a one-stop shop. The  True Board hits all the safety and function elements, as well as being made from beautiful  FSC certified Teak.
